Last audited: June 2026. Sean's rule: if it's not in active use or doesn't pay for itself, it's off the list. This list changes. The Monday Drop tells you when and why.

Writing & Docs

Notion Workspace / wiki / project hub
The stack glue. Not the best at any one thing, best at holding everything else together.
Obsidian Long-form thinking / PKM
Own your notes. Runs local. Plugins make it whatever you need it to be.
Craft Docs Client-facing docs
When Notion links look unprofessional. Fast, beautiful, shareable.

Project Management

Linear Engineering issue tracking
Jira replacement that doesn't feel like a punishment. Keyboard-first. Keyboard-only.
Loom Async video communication
A 3-minute Loom replaces a 30-minute meeting. One of the highest-ROI tools in this stack.

AI & Automation

Claude Pro Primary LLM
Best at long-context analysis and code review. The $20/month earns back in the first hour of the month.
Cursor AI code editor
VS Code but it finishes your sentences. Tab through boilerplate. Review is the new writing.
n8n (self-hosted) Workflow automation
Zapier but $0 at self-host scale. The switch saves $300+/month for anyone running more than 20 workflows.
Notion AI In-context AI
Best when you're already in Notion. Worst when you expect it to replace a dedicated LLM. Know the difference.
Perplexity Pro Research + sourcing
When you need answers with citations you can verify. Google replacement for research queries.
Otter.ai Meeting transcription
Auto-transcribes every call. Action items extracted automatically. Stops you from needing notes.

Communication

Slack Team async chat
Still the default. Still the tab Sean always has open. Not worth switching from unless your team wants to.
Superhuman Email
$30/month is expensive for email. If you manage 100+ emails per day, it pays. Below that: Gmail works.

Design & Content

Figma Design + prototyping
Still the industry standard. The free plan covers solo founders. Pay when you have a design team.
Canva Social + brand assets
Figma alternative for non-designers. Brand kit keeps everything consistent without a designer.
Descript Video editing
Edit video like a transcript. The overdub and gap removal features alone justify the subscription.

Dev & Infrastructure

Vercel Frontend hosting
Deploy from git push. Preview URLs, rollbacks. The pro plan is worth it once you have team deployments.
Raycast Mac launcher / productivity
Spotlight replacement. App switching, clipboard history, snippets. Free tier is enough for most.
GitHub Source control + CI
Table stakes. Free for most. Use Actions for CI before paying for anything else.

Analytics & Research

PostHog Product analytics
Mixpanel + Hotjar in one. Free tier is genuinely useful. Self-host when data sovereignty matters.
Readwise Reader Reading + highlights
Every article, PDF, newsletter → one place. Highlights sync to Obsidian. The research flywheel.
vidIQ YouTube keyword research
For any channel-based business. The keyword gaps tool finds what competitors miss.

Finance & Ops

Stripe Payments
Still the default for good reason. Better API docs than any alternative. 2.9% + 30¢ is the cost of doing business.
Mercury Business banking
Free business banking built for startups. API-friendly. Better UX than any bank has a right to have.
Gumroad Digital product sales
10% flat under $1k/month. Instant setup. No approval process. The fastest path from idea to selling.
Beehiiv Newsletter / email
Better segmentation than Mailchimp at lower cost. Scale tier caps at 3 publications — budget for Max if running a network.

Currently Watching

Not on the stack yet. Sean is evaluating these. Monday Drop covers them when a verdict forms.

Coda
Notion + spreadsheet hybrid. More powerful in one dimension. More complex everywhere else. Jury's out.
Windsurf
Cursor competitor. Agent mode is genuinely interesting. Not ready to recommend over Cursor yet.
